Our Remanufacturing Processes that are used in the rebuilding of engine parts!
Budget Engine Rebuilders Inc. and or DBA Chicago Engines puts quality at the top of our list because your product has to last. An intensive process control system is used to monitor all aspects of the remanufacturing process. Components are inspected after each operation and procedure. Only the highest quality parts and machine work are provided.
At Budget Engine Rebuilders Inc. and or DBA Chicago Engine's engine remanufacturing plants, extensive research goes into casting numbers, machining processes and tolerances, new part vendor selections and product applications. In addition, operators go through training that focuses on unique product features and processes. Potential problem areas may then be identified and corrected. We also provide upgrades to engines to repair some OEM manufacturing issues.
Each core is disassembled and inspected. Those components not suitable for further processing are scrapped. All small parts are cleaned and critical tolerances are checked. Worn parts are scrapped and replaced. All major components (blocks and crankshafts, cylinder heads) are baked in gas-fired ovens to carbonize grease and dirt. Other components are chemically cleaned.
Components then go through an abrasive blaster that removes all contaminants. Blocks and crankshafts and cylinder heads are all magna fluxed to check for any cracks not found during visual inspections. Each component then moves to its respective machining area.
All blocks are magna fluxed for cracks inside sleeves and around the engine outside perimeter.
All freeze plugs are replaced and the water cavities are inspected for integrity.
All holes are cleaned and repaired if necessary. All cylinder bores are measured and taken to the same oversize dimensions. Diamond cutting hones are used for final bore sizing to ensure that surface finish requirements are met.
Blocks go through a final wash to remove any remaining contaminants from the machining process.
Crankshafts are thermally cleaned and stress relived then magna fluxed and checked for defects. They are then straightened and ground on the center line of the shaft and micro-polished to a finish of 8-12 RMS. Crankshafts are precision ground to meet or exceed OEM specifications.
Oil holes are chamfered at the journal surface to remove all sharp edges that could impede oil flow or damage bearing surfaces
Each connecting rod is checked for cracks, damage and straightness. Those found not to be in specifications are then resized or discarded. Center-to-center length is then measured to ensure process compliance.
- After cleaning, all cams are inspected for straightness and lobe conformity.
- If grinding is required, the cam contour and timing is maintained to original specifications.
- All lobes are polished to ensure uniform surfaces and smooth performance.
- All non roller camshafts are replaced with new ones.
All heads are thermally cleaned and stress relieved then magna fluxed and checked for defects. All valve seats are machined and ground with a 3 angle valve job and assembled with new valve seals. Valve guides are then replaced when needed, remanufactured or new valves are used, valve springs are cleaned, tested and VSI shims are used. All heads are resurfaced to a finish of 4-6 RMS to meet today's demanding sealing requirements.
- All freeze plugs are replaced.
- All decks are machined as required to reach required specifications.
- Valve guides are resized or replaced as required with bronze guide liners.
- Valve seats are machined with a 3 angle cutters for proper flow.
- After assembly, each valve is vacuum checked to ensure proper seating and sealing
All blocks are thermally cleaned, stress relived and magna fluxed. Blocks are then inspected for broken ears, bolts and hot or spun main bearings. The block is then bored to the proper specifications of the ring and piston manufacturers with a finish of 25-30 RMS. Before assembly, the block is then washed in a hot soapy water solution and inspected a final time.
